Juan was born on the 10th of August 1951, in Bogota, Columbia.
Juan Manuel Santos was known for his unwavering efforts. He
brought Colombia's more than 50-years-long civil war to an end.
The war has cost the lives of at least 220,000 Colombians and
displaced 6 million people. His family had been the founder of the
Colombian newspaper El Tiempoin which the family has owned for
over 50 years. His great uncle, Eduardo Santos Montejo, was
Columbia's president from 1938 to 1942. In 1992, Juan Manuel
Santos was appointed the president of the VII United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development. Santos was named Minister
of Defense in July 2006, after founding the Social-National Unity Part.
As Minister of Defense, he was able to shed light on a false positives
scandal that related to the executions of guerillas that had been carried
out by the military. In 1987, he married a woman named Maria Clemencia
Rodriguez Munera who worked as an industrial and had three
healthy children.

Kia ora Roneeza,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing about Juan Manuel Santos. I feel like I learnt a lot about his achievements in your post, and I agree - he certainly deserved a Nobel Prize.
How did you learn about him? And, what stood out to you about him and his actions? Does he inspire you? I always find when I read about people such as Juan Manuel Santos, it inspires me to dream big of the many things I could achieve for the greater good. Even making a conscious effort to recycle everyday makes a difference! :)
Looking forward to hearing back!

Great post Sherry and VERY informative! I LOVE the quote...it's so true.
ReplyDeleteIt reminded me of this passage “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect. ( Mt 5:43-48) Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep your learning up over the school break!
Good morning Mrs Collins,
DeleteI like the quote as well. It does relate to that passage doesn't it? I wonder if Juan is a Christian or another religion... Thank you for your comment! Have a swell holiday :)
