Ash Wednesday and Lent!

Lent
Lent is a time of 40 days which is a time for  prayer and fasting.
Fasting can be not only be eating less but giving up valuable things you treasure. Lent is one of the special events of the Liturgical Year. The 40 days represent Jesus praying in the desert.
The colour purple represents Lent.

Ash Wednesday
Ash wednesday is the beginning of Lent. The ashes come from the leaves of the palm  tree which were used to welcome Jesus into Jerusalem. During Ash Wednesday, the priest puts his thumb in the ashes and marks a cross with the ashes on our foreheads. During Ash Wednesday, Father pours oil in the ashes, then the holy water and then blesses it with the scents of smoke.

The Treaty of Waitangi!

My Interpretation of the Treaty of Waitangi
Treaty of Waitangi is a founding document that was signed on the 6th of February 1840. Over five hundred Maori chiefs and the British people signed the treaty. The Treaty was in three parts that are called articles.
The Maori people and the British traded food and valuable things for muskets which started fights called the musket wars. The treaty of Waitangi was an agreement between the British and the Maori people. The government didn’t always honour the Treaty. A few years after the Treaty was signed, promises were broken.
